1. Uneven or Sunken Pavers

One of the most frequent problems homeowners encounter is uneven or sunken pavers. This typically occurs due to improper base preparation, poor drainage, or natural ground settling. When the base layer beneath the pavers shifts or erodes, the bricks above can sink or tilt, creating an uneven surface and potential tripping hazards.

To prevent this, it is essential to ensure that the base is properly compacted and graded during installation. At Platinum Pavers, we take extra care to prepare a stable foundation that resists movement over time. If your driveway is already experiencing this issue, we can lift the affected pavers, re-level the base, and reinstall them to restore a smooth, safe surface.

2. Weed Growth Between Pavers

Another common nuisance is the growth of weeds and grass between the joints of brick pavers. While this may seem like a minor cosmetic issue, it can actually lead to structural problems if left unchecked. Weeds can widen the gaps between pavers, allowing more moisture to penetrate and destabilize the base.

Fortunately, this issue is preventable. Using polymeric sand during installation helps lock the pavers in place and inhibits weed growth. Additionally, regular cleaning and sealing can further protect the joints. If weeds have already taken root, we recommend removing them manually and reapplying joint sand to reinforce the structure.

3. Stains and Discoloration

Brick pavers are porous by nature, which means they can absorb oil, grease, rust, and other substances that cause unsightly stains. Driveways are especially prone to this issue due to vehicle traffic and exposure to the elements. Over time, these stains can dull the appearance of your pavers and detract from your home’s curb appeal.

To combat this, we advise sealing your pavers shortly after installation and reapplying the sealant every few years. Sealing creates a protective barrier that repels stains and makes cleaning easier. At Platinum Pavers, we use high-quality sealants that enhance the color of your pavers while providing long-lasting protection.

4. Efflorescence

Efflorescence is a white, powdery residue that sometimes appears on the surface of brick pavers. It is caused by water-soluble salts rising to the surface and crystallizing as the water evaporates. While it is not harmful, it can be unsightly and difficult to remove without the proper techniques.

This issue is more common in areas with high humidity or poor drainage. To minimize the risk, we ensure proper water runoff during installation and use materials that are less prone to efflorescence. If it does occur, our team can apply specialized cleaners to safely remove the residue without damaging the pavers.

5. Cracked or Broken Pavers

Although brick pavers are known for their durability, they can still crack or break under extreme pressure or impact. Heavy vehicles, falling objects, or freeze-thaw cycles can all contribute to this type of damage. The good news is that individual pavers can be replaced without disturbing the entire driveway.

At Platinum Pavers, we keep a stock of matching materials to ensure seamless repairs. Our team can quickly remove damaged bricks and replace them with new ones, restoring the integrity and appearance of your driveway.

6. Fading from Sun Exposure

Over time, prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the color of brick pavers to fade. While this doesn’t affect their structural integrity, it can diminish the visual appeal of your driveway. To preserve the vibrant look of your pavers, we recommend applying a UV-resistant sealant.

This not only protects against fading but also enhances the natural color of the bricks. Our sealing services are designed to maintain the beauty of your driveway for years to come.
